At the end of 2010, TITAN Group gained management control over SharrCem in Kosovo, a plant founded in 1936. The first priority for TITAN was to completely modernize the plant and meet high safety, environmental and quality standards, by fitting it with new filters and updating equipment to reflect Best Available Technologies.
The integration of management systems to facilitate the overall improvement of performance of the plant and the OHSAS 18001 certification process was launched as quickly as possible. The system was fully operational in 2012, and certification is expected to be completed by the end of 2013. Moreover, a CSR Committee was established in the company with nine managers, including the General Manager and the Plant Manager, to facilitate the development of necessary processes and practices to measure and report on performance and engage with key stakeholders.
The Kosovo CSR Committee has focused on the following key priorities:
- Developing an integrated CSR structure
- Engaging in a process of self assessment and continuous self improvement
- Improving relations and value added to local community through engagement and active involvement
